shane smith poker book reviewThere just simply aren't enough books that are designed to help a player win money in the low limits.  This is where the bulk of online players play, not to mention that the casinos are mostly busy with one and two dollar no limit holdem.  It appears Shane Smith understands this, as he has not one but two low limit poker books, but this one deals with a much harder to learn game called Omaha high low.

A high low poker game means that any pot with certain flop characteristics may be divided into two.  At least one part going to the best high hand, and at least one other part going to the best low hand.  A low hand means the weakest and lowest ranking cards is a winner, as long as you have five cards under eight, with the ace being both high and low.

With Omaha high low, a four hole card, and five community card game, you could understand how this could become quite complex, especially to new players.  Well, if you have the basics of this game as laid out by Shane Smith in this book, you will be poised to take advantage of a pool of seriously weak Omaha players, live and online. If you compare no limit hold them to Omaha high low right now, the skill level in hold them is significantly higher than Omaha eight, and conceivably, this could open a significant profit Avenue for players willing to get down just the basics.

Shane Smith explains of the basics of this game in this poker book, while adding some profiling tips and starting hand strategies.  This information alone, is fundamentally profitable to the game, especially when playing online. Then take some quality time in the middle chapters to discuss playing the flop, understanding the turn card, and really stressing the value of the river card in Omaha high low - which is ultra-important.

Omaha high low is a drawing game and Smith understands this to the point where he perceptibly describes the common mistakes losing players make and how to avoid them, while taking advantage of those players. He did all he also describes a tight balance between playing too loose and too tight, doing a prime examples of when you should be calling to the river,  in order to ensure long-term profit.
