#6 - Complete Book of Hold'em Poker by Gary Carson
Certainly the most comprehesive poker book, especially for learning the basics and thus, avoiding losing your shirt. Advanced players will have to look elsewhere, but there are excellent chapters for all levels here.Gary Carson

Some things you need to know: Is he acting, is he tricky, does he know the basic tells, has he read the book, can he control his natural emotions, does he think you are an idiot.. ??? and many more questions you need to at least be aware of.
